The starting Flagsship seems to have the supernatural capability to find anomolies that are well beyond sensor range.

Galciv 2 is supposed to be a Science Ficion game, not a Fantasy game.

To produce this bug, simply select Auto Survey for the flagship at the start of a game (press "A").

The devs have repeatedly said that this is a feature, not a bug. Both the player and AI can do it.

If it bothers you alot, just consider that anomolies can be found by the survey module in a way that is seperate from sensors ability to show you planets, stars, and ships... Just a thought.

It was the same way in GalCiv1. In the betas they had changed it to only survey anomalies you had found, but it was changed back to 'magic anomaly detection' for the release.
